Angela began her training under Miss Diane Lewis at the Hochstein School of Music in Rochester, NY. Miss Dennis has had the pleasure of expanding knowledge and sharing exploration of movement with many artists such as Cecil Slaughter formerly of Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Michael McGowan formerly of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Sharon Butcher of Shenendoah University, Alan Sener formerly of the Louis Falco Dance Company, Bob Durkin former principal dancer for Bob Fosse, Geri Houlihan formerly of the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Paul Sanasardo Dance Company and the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Doug Varone of Doug Varone and Dancers, Felix Blaska of Les Ballets Felix Blaska, Michael Garber of Transformotion and Ron Amit formerly of Batsheva Dance Ensemble.
Miss Dennis’ choreography was selected to perform at the 2006 AAPHERD National Dance Gala in Baltimore, MD as well as the 2009 Create WV Conference in Snowshoe, WV. Angela is a former member of the Kitchen Sink Dance Company under the direction of Michael McGowan and most recently was a member of the West Virginia Dance Company under Founding Artistic Director Toneta Akers Toler and Co-Director Donald Laney.
As the Founding Artistic Director of Alchemy Dance Project in 2003 and the junior modern dance company, Red Stone Dance Initiative in 2009, she has an extensive repertory. These productions include, Moving Memoirs(2005), Choreography Café (2006), Momotaro (2007), Reflections (2007), Ebenezer (2008 - present), Groundwork (2008), Secrets and Light (2009), Pockets Full of Movement (2010), and From the Same Fire (2011). The full length production of Momotaro was the debut of Angela’s modern dance interpretation of the Japanese folktale of a little boy who came from a giant peach. The full length production of Secrets and Light is inspired by the book ‘A Cool Moonlight’ by author Angela Johnson about a little girl living with xeroderma pigmentosum, a rare allergy to sunlight. Additionally, Miss Dennis and her dancers have performed many of her other original works annually at the West Virginia State Dance Festival since 2003 and guest performances throughout the state.
Angela has been commissioned to create and perform works for Morgantown Theatre Company, University High School, M.T. Pockets Theatre Company, Sally Ann’s Dance Company, Trillium Performing Youth Ensemble, WVU’s Concert Choir and Fairmont State College. She has also been part of many community programs such as PITA Pockets Summer Theatre Camp, Arts in the Park and BOPARC Community Dance & Fitness classes. Angela recently participated in a local fundraising performance ‘Dancing Through Time’ benefitting the Alzheimer’s Association and families living with the disease.
Miss Dennis has been on staff and guest instructor at educational dance organizations such as Momentum Center for the Arts, Northern West Virginia Performing Arts Academy, Morgantown Dance Studio, Trillium Arts Collective, and AW Dance Company. She is currently on staff at Kat & Company Dance Studio.
Elizabeth Pato Slozat is the Business and Development Director of Alchemy Dance Project and Red Stone Dance Initiative. She graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and a minor in Business. She has since worked in the professional theatre world as an actress at a variety of places such as the Missoula Children's Theatre and the Tecumseh! Outdoor Drama. As a production stage manager, Liz has worked on Morgantown Dance Studio’s production of Momotaro, Directed and Choreographed by Angela Dennis, Alchemy Dance Project’s production of Ebenezer, and the California University of PA’s production of The Nutcracker. Combining her love for the arts and experience in business, Liz is delighted to be involved with such a fantastic organization!
